ESPN Founder Stuart Evey

ESPN’s Founding Chairman and former Getty Oil executive, Stuart Evey shared his thoughts on business development, corporate social responsibility and ethics with students enrolled in MGMT 195 Introduction to the Entertainment Business and MGMT402 Principles of Entertainment I. Evey spoke about the challenges that he and his supporters faced while starting ESPN – a business that was far outside Getty Oil’s core business. He also spoke about the importance for establishing a strong social network to help navigate the many social and ethical issues that you face in any business, particularly major start-ups such as ESPN. Finally, Stuart stressed the importance for recognizing your limits, hiring people that compliment your skills and then showing them respect by allowing them to do their jobs.
