University Of Montana Students Sponsor Event to Bring Community Together
On May 8th the University of Montana Entertainment Management (UMEM) students are sponsoring Spring Thaw. Spring Thaw takes place on the University of Montana oval from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
This is an annual event to help bridge the gap between the Missoula community and The University of Montana. Spring Thaw is free of charge and open to everyone. It is a family friendly event with games, giveaways, and fun for all. From noon to 1:00 PM there will be live music for the community to enjoy. Other activities include a dunk tank, tug-o-war with Monte, blow-up slide, football and baseball toss, local vendors, cotton candy and popcorn, SpectrUM electricity generator, as well as many more exciting activities. Raffle tickets will also be sold to help raise money for three local Missoula charities and support the UMEM program. Raffle prizes include two tickets to see Phish in concert at The Gorge, lodging and dinner at fine hotels and restaurants, two paid airfares to Las Vegas, weekend passes for The Love Your Mother Earth Festival at Lolo Hot Springs, car detailing services and oil changes, and many more prizes from around the Missoula community.
As part of giving back to the community, UMEM students ask that people attending Spring Thaw bring items of non-perishable food for a food drive to benefit The Missoula Food Bank. Items are not required for entry, but are strongly encouraged as this is a day about giving back and community building.
UMEM is a program at the University of Montana to teach students about the entertainment industry and the careers that are involved. The program invites entertainment industry professionals to be guest speakers, giving students the chance to interact and learn from the best. UMEM sponsors Spring Thaw every year to say thank you to the community that continually supports the program and The University of Montana.
