Duncan Webb, Author of Running Theaters, Instructs Students

Duncan Webb spoke to MGMT 295: Venue Management on October 1 via conference call. One of the first questions asked of him concerned his thoughts on the new events center set to be built in Missoula.

Duncan immediately expressed his concerns about the proposed size of the venue, saying it would be competing directly with the Adams Center.

He also spoke extensively about the goals that theatres should be working towards. He said that the biggest challenge that the future holds for theaters and their staff is creating a line-up of events that force people to "get out of their cars," to essentially emerge from their routine and go see a show. With technology advancing every day, the fight is to keep people from "cocooning themselves" and getting their arts fix from some kind of technological device.

Duncan Webb is the author of Running Theaters: Best Practices for Leaders and Managers.
